Philip Staley

2008 Grenache - Russian River Valley - Philip Staley Vineyards & Winery

This succulent wine is a product of meticulous work in the vineyard where each year Philip Staley thins half the crop, assuring a low yield of 3.5 tons per acre. At the winery, he has tailored a special regimen for the Grenache, including a cold soak of whole clusters and whole berries prior to fermentation. This Grenache has broad, inviting aromas suggesting rose petals and black pepper. Red fruit cranberry and strawberry flavors are fresh and forward.

Staley's 1997 vintage was the first Grenache to win a gold medal in a major competition in California. Grenache is a versatile wine to be enjoyed in place of a Pinot Noir, and makes a perfect wine for Thanksgiving!

Forth Vineyards

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, "Rebecca's Vineyard," Dry Creek Valley - Forth Vineyards

From the steep, terraced rocky hillsides of this spectacular vineyard, one can survey the whole of the estate as well as the whole world around. These vines fight for every drop of moisture and nourishment available and, because of their struggle, produce low yields of small-berried clusters that virtually burst with concentration, complexity and depth. In barrel, Rebecca's Vineyard Cabernet shows the sophistication, the struggle, the determination to be anything but average, displaying blueberry-cherry-cassis notes undergirded with those seductive sandlewood, spearmint, and spice characteristics we have come to crave from this wine. 100% French oak for 22 months.

Dashe Cellars

2009 Grenache Dry Creek, Les Enfante Terribles by Dashe Cellars

This is the first year that we have used our Les Enfants Terribles label series for our lovely, complex Grenache grown in a single rocky vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley. This flat, rugged vineyard is planted in an old dry riverbed near the town of Healdsburg, in Sonoma County, where the maritime fog that flows down the valley at night cools down the vines until the late morning, keeping the grapes cool and the resulting wines extremely luscious and balanced between fruit and acidity.

Price: $24.00 Siblings Club: $20.40 / Generations and Most Favorites Clubs: $19.20

Mietz Cellars

2006 Petit Verdot - Sonoma County Mietz Cellars

Some friends offered the Mietz's their Petit Verdot grapes that had just come of age. They jumped at the chance to try something new and creative by making a wine from a little known varietal. They are extremely pleased with the outcome. Although this Bordeaux varietal is elusive and hard to ripen it shows well in our warmer California climate.

WINEMAKING NOTES: This wine is medium dark ruby in color with an aroma of cedar, black fruits and toasty oak. The big payoff, however, is the mouthful which is rich and viscous, the trademark of petit verdot. The wine is still very youthful but should calm down and expand its textures and flavors with future aging. The expected life span is in the range of 15 years.

Price: $28.00 Siblings Club: $23.80 / Generations and Most Favorites Clubs: $22.40

2004 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley - SL Cellars

This Pinot Noir exhibits complex violet and rose notes with ripe flavors of blueberries and dark cherries. Its elegant structure is typical of the sandy, Goldridge soils found in the Russian River Valley/Sonoma Coast region. Extended skin contact during a cold soak prior to fermentation accentuates the rich texture without extracting overwhelming tannins.

2004 Syrah, Dry Creek Valley - SL Cellars

Cherry and berry fruit aromas with smoky notes make this Syrah inviting. Deep in color and with a full and concentrated mid-palate, this Rhone-style blend of Syrah and Viognier bursts with a touch of California color from the Petite Sirah, which also adds a meaty and peppery depth of flavor.

2006 Syrah - Dry Creek Valley, Mietz Cellars

2006 was a great year for red wine. The 2006 syrah grapes are from the Dry Creek Valley, farmed by Ray Teldeschi. They were picked at elevated sugar levels and maximum ripeness. This wine was aged in 100% French oak, 30% new barrels for one year.

The wine is very dark ruby, rich, and has a dark black raspberry fruit flavor juxtaposed to a very rich, toasty vanilla flavor from the oak. This syrah is balanced by sufficient acidity, is very rich, and drinking well now. It has what it takes to age 5-10 years. 450 cases produced. 92% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah (Russian River Valley)

Price: $22.00 Siblings Club: $18.70 / Generations and Most Favorites Clubs: $17.60

2006 Merlot, Sonoma Valley - David Noyes Wines

Despite being the last grapes David harvested in 2006, this Merlot maintained good acidity and bright berry flavors even with the long hang time. Fully ripe, the tannins are smooth and velvety, and despite its youth it is very enjoyable now. For additional complexity David aged the wine for 9 months in new French oak from the Doreau cooperage, whose barrels add mocha, vanilla and spice notes without detracting from the freshness of the fruit.

100% Merlot, 15% alcohol, only 40 cases produced.

Price: $25.00 Siblings Club: $21.25 / Generations and Most Favorites Clubs: $20.00

2001 Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley, Collier Falls (Magnum)

The 2001 Reserve Zin smells deceptively like laid-back, partially raisined Zinfandel, but it enters your mouth as a brawny, ripe mountain Zin with plenty on its mind. I particularly liked how the wines smoky, earthy warmth never loses touch with its vibrant acidity or mellow blackberry and black cherry flavors. Thom Elkjer, Appellation America.

2005 Barbera, Dry Creek Valley - Lago di Merlo (Tasting Room Exclusive) MAGNUM 1.5 Liters

This wine was the Monferrato Festival Winner for the 2003 vintage. This wine marks our first attempt at producing a true Northern Piedmont—style wine. This wine’s deep garnet color clings to the side of your glass, all the while filling your nose with dense saucy fruit aromas of bing cherries and raspberries. Only neutral oak was used in the aging process, so that no characters would be stripped from this fruit bomb of a red wine. Italian cuisine, lamb, or veal with rosemary infused flavors pair well with this wine. The acidity helps cleanse the palate of lingering meat fats.
